Gallery Shows

Good morning everyone!

Well, as of the beginning of the year, I am now officially a full time artist. I have been working non-stop to get caught up with tattooing and everything else I have fallen behind on, and now that I am getting my feet back under me I have finally been able to get some personal art done. So I have some new images to share as well as some info about current art shows.

Currently I have three drawings on display and for sale in the Atheneaum ArtSpace Gallery. The show runs February 5th - 25th and is located at 401 East Michigan Street, Indianapolis, IN 46204-1671 (the same building as the Rathskeller). The opening was canceled last week due to weather, so the opening reception will now be held this Friday, February 12th from 6pm - 9pm. The three pieces I have on display can be seen below. Each drawing is approximately 11″x14″ and costs $300 (framed). I intend at some point to offer giclee prints of each design as well so stay tuned for that as well. I also plan to update this page to include a gallery of drawings and other non-egg art.

I also have a drawing on display in another show at the Stutz ArtSpace gallery. Below is a flyer with the details for this show, as well as a picture of the drawing on display. It is also 11″x14″ and costs $300.

More updates to come soon!

Well, clearly I lied about posting more, so please forgive me. On the plus side, as of the end of this year I will be leaving my job and pursuing art full time, something I am extremely excited about (also nervous, but we’re focusing on the excited part). This will primarily take the form of tattooing, but I also intend to devote much more time to eggs, as well as follow through with a graphic novel I have planned. Give me a couple more months, and then stay tuned for updates!

New Blog!

Hello everyone! Lately I have found the opportunity (and also the motivation!) to do more art. Thusly I have decided to retire the old news update, which I managed to post on once every few months to let you all know that I still haven’t made any new eggs, in favor of this spiffy new art blog.

Since my current artistic pursuits consist of more than just eggs, I’ve decided to expand this blog to consist of more than just egg-related updates. Here I plan to post any new artistic projects I am working on, from tattoos (more on that in a minute) to drawings, doodles, paintings, and eggs, to anything and everything else. I hope to keep it rather frequently updated (no, really), and I will also be posting here about any art related shows or events I might be involved in. One of the best features of this new blog is the RSS link above. You can now receive any new updates via RSS feeds in your reader of choice, so you don’t have to come back constantly to see how I haven’t updated in months.

Here is some info on a couple of projects I am currently involved in/working on:

  • Tattoos! Earlier this year I was offered the ridiculously amazing opportunity to apprentice to an incredibly awesome tattoo artist here in Indy. I immediately accepted and have been working hard and learning so much over the past few months. I started my first tattoo on May 12th. We are the only custom tattoo studio in the city, and you should all definitely check out the website at www.volutatattoo.com. There you’ll find info on all four artists working there, as well as galleries with all our work. Many of the updates I’ll put here in the blog will be images of tattoos I am working on, though a complete gallery can be found on the studio webpage.
  • Eggs! It’s been quite a while since I’ve had the time and motivation to work on eggs, but somehow recently I have found the motivation again and the time…well…I’m working on that. I currently have a few requests out for commissioned eggs, that I will be getting around to shortly, and pictures will be posted here when they are done. I also have high hopes of creating enough eggs to display in a gallery show this December that I have been invited to participate in, so with any luck I’ll have even more new eggs to show here over the next few months. Meanwhile, my egg gallery and other egg related info can be found on my website: www.obsidiae.com.
  • Webcomics! My last current project is the illustration of  a webcomic that my husband and I create together. He writes it (I offer plenty of bad plot suggestions) and I illustrate. I also design and maintain the website. The comic is called Do You Work Here and is based on my husband’s (and my, to a lesser extent) experience in the wonderful world of retail. Since I tend to crank out the comic drawings at the last possible minute before they have to go online, I don’t offer up those drawings as great works of art, or really even good representations of what I can do with a pencil, but they are, nevertheless, a lot of fun. You can check all that out over at www.dywhcomic.com.

Those are the only major ongoing projects for now. Links to everything can be found above as well. I have other things I would like to be working on, such as a graphic novel whose plot is in progress, but there are only so many hours in the day, and I do work a full time day job as well, after all.

My dream would be to have a small art studio downtown and I could spend my days either tattooing or at my studio working on eggs and teaching egg art classes. Maybe someday I can make that a reality. If any of you out there are interested in helping to finance my dream, buy eggs, get tattoos, or just send checks!

Okay, that’s probably enough for now. More updates to come soon!
